Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Who Built the Moon? - New album
27th November 2017
Some are calling Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds's latest album “Who Built the Moon?” their best album yet, though miles away from his 90s Oasis sound that we know and love. Last month, Noel's brother Liam had his solo debut with “As You Were” which rose straight up the charts to number one. It seemed that Noel had a point to prove. The album has indeed risen to the top of the charts this week, but this is likely to be just due to sheer fascination of the public as to what the “other Gallagher” has done next. In this album, we see him experimenting much more with electronic styles, upping the tempo from his old stuff and keeping his music current. Was it entirely successful? Many critics differ in opinions, but one thing’s clear, he is definitely moving out of his comfort zone.
His most popular “Fort Knox” has been mostly well received, with a rock edge and a dense arrangement. However, the lyrics in most of his songs seem to have been forgotten amidst this busy backing, though this may be just as well as in “Fort Knox” Gallagher graces us with the bizarre line “I know a girl called Elsa, she’s into Alka-Seltzer”. Having said this, tracks such as album finale ‘The Man Who Built The Moon’ is a fantastic an energetic track that has all critics talking, one saying that it “deserves a bond film to be written for it”.
