Advertising With Purple

Unlike other societies, Purple Radio has our own sponsorship manager, Angela Moses, who will work with you to create a custom sponsor package to ensure both sides are happy with. You can read more about Purple Radio here. At the end of last term, the station had a record number of listeners with over 2,500 connections per week connecting to our stream. Our website has has around 12,000 hits per week, making it the ideal place for you to advertise.

Website Advertising

Our primary form of advertising for the upcoming year is through our website. With direct links from the DSU and Palatinate sites, thousands of students and potential customers visit our website to connect to the station, explore the schedule and other content we have on offer. As the only student station, we have the unique position to allow you to communicate your products and services to our listeners.

We have graphic banners that appear on the front page that span the width of the content area and will appear immediately to visitors. For commercial organisations, we will be charging £20.00 per week for a standard banner. Depending on how many other sponsors we have, this may be in rotation with others. For student societies, we are offering a special rate of only £15.00 per week, ideal for advertising special events.

Our Purple Player will also have room for adverts, when launched in October. The player is the primary means of listening to the station, in a popup window, with details of the current show, current song, our webcams, a contact form and upcoming shows. Over 90% of our listeners used our player last year and we expect even more in the future. For commercial organisations, we will be charing £25.00 per adverts here and £20.00 for student societies. Again, there may be several sponsors running in rotation on the player but we will ensure your advert gains the exposure you have paid for.

On Air Advertising

To gain direct access to our listeners, we provide the opportunity for you to advertise on air.  Our own production manager has been working in audio production for several years and will work with you to create the perfect jingle for your products or services. Jingles will be played twice an hour (maximum) during broadcasting hours, and usually last for 10 - 20 seconds. Voice overs are professionally produced and edited in house to meet our high standards. Our presenters will be instructed to play these whenever necessary to ensure your product/service gains the exposure it deserves. Jingles will usually advertise both the station’s website and your products.

Our pricing is more flexible than website advertising, as the costs will change, depending on the length of the jingle, how many jingles are required and how many weeks you intend to advertise on our station. See below for some sample pricing. However, we strongly suggest you get in touch with your requirements and we can provide accurate pricing.

Posters and Stash Advertising 

Each term, we will produce a run of posters and hoodies to promote the station. Hoodies are available to all students and are very popular with members of the station. They are usually available for around £15.00. If you wish to have your logo included in our next run, please get in touch soon.

Posters are printed on A2 extra-glossy paper and placed in strategic points in Durham. In the past, our on air sponsors have been included in these posters to provide some continuity to the image of the station.
